OUR HISTORY The Salem Animal rescue League (SARL) was formed in 1992 with the goal of rescuing 50 stray and unwanted animals in the Salem, NH area. During that year SARL rescued a total of 157 animals, affirming the need for an alternative to traditional municipal animal control. The Salem Animal Rescue League's history is one of community interaction with police, town government and the people of the community. Today, the Salem Animal Rescue League rescues and adopts close to 800 dogs and cats per year. In 1993, SARL was instrumental in changing NH Legislation to make animal abuse a felony. OUR WORK Humane shelters have changed dramatically over the past decade. Salem Animal Rescue League has kept pace with the growing demands of our community by expanding our programs, which include: Limited Admissions Shelter Operations For Cats And Dogs Health Screening, Spaying/Neutering And Veterinary Care For All Animals Entering The Shelter Collaborative Partnerships With Local Animal Control And Town Government Comprehensive Surrender And Adoption Counseling Service And Related Support Dedicated ''Quick Response'' Phone Line To Provide Assistance To The Community Community Resource For Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program For Cats Referral Network Across Various Humane Organizations Monthly Cable TV Program and Various Community-Based Events And Humane Education Programs CURRENT PROGRAMS In addition to maintaining existing shelter operations, The Salem Animal Rescue League continues to spotlight the shelter's impact on improving the welfare of unwanted animals, as well as the benefi
